Yushu-kan War-Dead Memorial Museum
Controversial ? Yes indeed. Worth your while ? If you are a history or military buff, the answer is again a definite “yes.” Recently renovated, the museum takes visitors on a tour of Japanese military history from exhibits based on the spirit of the samurai up to World War II.
Among the military paraphernalia are a Zero fighter and a human torpedo. Don’t miss the sad exhibit of bridal dolls donated by the families of young men killed in combat who never had a chance to marry. Of course, there is also a display for convicted war criminals.
The Yushu-kan is one of Japan’s oldest museums, begun in 1882.
