AT TOKYO’ S COSMOPOLITAN BEST OMOTESANDO
Originally an approach to Meiji Shrine, Omotesando is the name of the broad, tree-lined avenue that leads from Jingubashi bridge―home of the Cosplay Zoku costume bunch―down through the heart of Harajuku.
Along the way are fashion boutiques and novelty shops, including Omotesando Hills complex, with three magnets for foreign community all on the opposite side: the Kiddyland Toy Store, the Oriental Bazaar, and Tokyo Union Church.
The sidewalks are crowd-friendly in width and, naturally, crowded. Yet Omotesando is the street of the beautiful people, younger and more casual than Ginza, but older and more refined than the throngs of nearby Takeshita Street.
Toss in a strong mix of foreigners and this is Tokyo at its most cosmopolitan and elegant best.
