‘Setsubun’ literally means ‘division of seasons’ and this day was the end of winter according to the old Lunar Calendar. It comes around on February 3 or 4. On the evening of this day, people throw roasted soybeans inside and outside their houses with a cry of “Fuku-wa-uchi, Oni-wa-soto !” meaning ‘Good luck in ! Devils out !’ As the beans are thrown, it is believed, good luck is invited in, and bad luck is driven out.
It is also customary to eatas many roasted beans as one’s age. It is a kind of charm against ill luck.
We also visited Hibiya shrine to experience Setsubun yesterday.
We would like to share goodluck with you !
